    A man walks in, a stranger. She never saw him before, takes a cut of bread and walks out.
    The second girl wished and a second man walks in. She recognises him as one of her brother's workmen from the mill. He, likewise, took a slice of bread and goes out also.
    The third girl wished and for a long time no one came in. She thought she was going to be left an old maid. Then suddenly they heard a loud bang at the door, (heard a loud bang) and in runs a big black dog with a rope hanging around his neck (continued on page 458)
