devil or swim for your life.
When anybody failed to pay the heavy taxes the soldiers would come seize their cattle and lands and turn them out on the road like dogs, bar the doors and windows so that nobody could enter.
All the houses in Cully were barred and the people evicted except three which are as follow:
    Mr Michael Cahill
    Mr James Rowley
    Mr Patrick Cafferty
He allowed the family to sub-divide the land between them.
This is the way the Cully people suffered under the tyranny of the English Landlords.
