- Piggins were wooden vessels used to carry water. The women would fold their aprons and place them on their heads. On this they would carry the Piggin full of water, and sometimes they carried a "gallon" of water in the hand at the same time. Tom Kelly of Mullentine, aged 84 years, told me, he often saw his Aunt carrying two vessels in the above manner.
