    locality. Tourists on seeing them first, think they are holy wells. There is an old story told that gold is hidden somewhere near the castle and a dog minding it. The owner of the castle hid the gold or got it hidden when the was dying. Some time after his death some people came to look for the gold but one of them was killed. His companions made no further attempt to get the gold and since then no one has tried for it. It is buried in a chest underground.The castle came to be called "The House on the Island" It was translated into Irish
