    made in this locality in former years. This consisted of oatmeal wet with either water or milk and by adding a little sugar and salt to taste. This had to be well kneaded and baked on a griddle. This bread was looked upon as very nourishing. When people were leaving the district and going to foreign countries, it was customary to give them a piece of oatmeal cake in remembrance of home.
    Long ago when flour was very scarce in this district, the people made bread known as "pascóga". This bread was made up of Indian meal wet with milk, and a little salt was added. This bread was baked between two large leaves of cabbage.
