- Oaten meal cakes were often made in the district. It was made from oats ground into oaten meal. It was wet with water and put on a gridiron to bake. The gridiron was supported by a box or a bit of wood so that it would not fall.
Potato-bread was also made. It was made from boiled potatoes and flour mixed with it and baked on a pan for a quarter of an hour.(continues on next page)
