   He came back next morning and gave him Holy Communion. When his arm was better he started coming to Mass again.

   Oaten meal cakes were often made in the district. It was made from oats ground into oaten meal. It was wet with water and put on a gridiron to bake. The gridiron was supported by a box or a bit of wood so that it would not fall. Potato-bread was also made. It was made from boiled potatoes and flour mixed with it and baked on a pan for a quarter of an hour.
