- There are two forges in this parish. There is one forge situated near Derrane chapel. The blacksmth's name is Patrick Kelly. The other forge is about one mile from our house. The name of the blacksmith is Michael Flannagan. This forge is situated near the Four-Mile-House cross-roads.
This forge is fairly large. There is a big fire always burning in it. The fire is kept blown with a bellows. Half of the floor is boarded and the other half is paved. The anvil is situated in the middle of the floor. It is composed of wood and iron. There is also a tub in the forge for cooling the red irons. The water which cools the red irons is supposed to have a cure for bad stomachs.
