- WIND southwest portends rain If the wind "follows the sun" i.e. Rises with sun & travels from east to West - a sign of settled weather. But if it goes against the sun - sign of change (Cyclonic & anti cylonic). "Wind from the Hill" i.e. Northeast. sign of hard weather or of snow. Wind "whistling" or "howling" sign of rain. "Sidhe Gaoithe" - Sigh of Rain
THE SUN "sinking" - becoming obscured a sign of change. "Legs to the Sun" i.e. Rays. sign of Continuation of weather in its present state. Red sunset sign of dry warm weather. Copper-coloured clouds at sunset - change. "Watery" sun - sun pale. sign of rain.
THE MOON - halo around moon portends rain in two days
Two stars near the moon sign of storm.
Moon "sinking" sign of rain.
If the 'new moon' (1st quarter) appears "on its back". that is with the horns of the crescent upward sign of rain STARS. "sinking" sign of rain. "Jumping" or twinkling sign of frost. Stars falling sign of frost.CLOUDS black & low southwest - Rain. Clouds running. clearing weather. Cloud cap on Mullagh Measha hill sign of rain - Running fog - east for fine weather west for broken weather. "Mackerel sky" for rain.(continues on next page)- Collector
