Long ago matches were often made at a fair. The parties would meet. Then they would go into a public house. They would go into a room and make the match and fix the day for the marriage. Often a match was made Shrove Tuesday morning and the pair were married before mid-night. Long ago the man and and wife used to go on horseback to the chapel.
