- After the Irish defeated the Black "and Tans" they split into two parties called the "Free Staters" and the "Sinn Feiners" and they started a civil war. They fought when ever they met. One Sunday in 1922 they met in Kildee to the north of Ballygurteen on the main Dunmanway road. The noise of the guns could be heard for miles around. Luckily the fight did not last long, but one man was killed and many injured.
- There were not many famous heroes around. There was one man named O'Donovan Rossa who got his name from Rossmore. He lived in Rossmore in Mrs O'Donovan's land.(continues on next page)
