  1. One evening that I strolled into Old Malachy's, I found him seated by the fire making porridge, and what took my attention most of all, his face wore a jovial smile as if he were enjoying some private joke of his own. I dew near and seated myself close beside him on a three legged stool and immediately inquired into the cause of his merriment, for I scented a story at once, and that could not be missed.
    "Well", he said its a far way back my thoughts "wor" now, many an' many a day ago, but since you just chanced to come in, I may as well tell you the story, or I won't get 'pace' or 'aise' from you for the evening again.
