  1. A local poet was James Feneey of Cornamaddy, who went to America years ago but who still writes songs ( in every year in the Almanic songs where he pours his hearts longing to be home again. He was born and reared in Cornamaddy, a village beside the Shannon, and had always shown an aptitude for composing poems.
    Most of his songs were in praise native place and surrounding districts. Here is some lines from one which appeared in the Almanic a few years ago, in praise of his own place, St.Johns.
    Historic, gallant sweet St.John's,
    I prize thy sacred name,
    Thy prospects, ere my memory fail,
