- About the middle of the last century a famous highway man lived in this neighbourhood. He made his rough home almost at the top of Owen hill, but a little to the north side of the hill. His name was Diarmuid. All the people of the locality feared him greatly. He slept by day and went about by night with an old fashioned muzzle loading gun under his arm. He carried off with him fat sheep and occasionally a cow or two. He wore no shoes, and his feet were so tanned that he ran through thorns, etc. quite easily, without being hurt. He always wore a long black overcoat, with a hood on it resembling a woman's hood-cloak.
He was notorious and noted for his "hold-ups". He seemed to know when big gentlemen travelled from(continues on next page)- Collector
