    They are dug with a digger in Autumn and several neighbours join in the picking. They are all picked together and put in different heaps. Then they are sorted and put in a big pit where they are stored for the Winter.
    The kinds of potatoes my father grows are Arran Banners and Kerr Pinks. The Arran Banners are usually a better crop. Potatoes were used as starch long ago.
