The ray was so called because it was a great place for turf.
There is also a very big rock in John Linehan's place of Lyreneague. It is about 200 ( two hundred) ft. long and sixty ft. high. - My farm is situated in Lyreneague. It was so called because long ago there were deer to found there.
The name of the field in my farm are the big meadow, the gurteen, the kiln field, the rick field, the ray, the path field, Michéals field.
The big meadow was so called because it was a tillage field.
