  2. The Irish people nearly always get married in Shrove. It is usually the old people that make the matches. If it was a boy that wanted to get married his father or mother would send an account to a girl who would be suitable for him and have a share of money. They would arrange to meet in town and make the marriage arrangements. The date is fixed for the marriage to come off. They would go to the Church about nine o'clock and when they would come home they would have a party at the girls house and a
