  1. The Irish people nearly always get married in Shrove. It is usually the old people that make the matches. If it was a boy that wanted to get married his father or mother would send an account to a girl who would be suitable for him and have a share of money. They would arrange to meet in town and make the marriage arrangements. The date is fixed for the marriage to come off.
