- Carters, Chapel St, Castletownroche carry on the trade of basket-making, occasionally at present. Their father and uncles were also basket-makers.
They made cradles and every kind of wicker-work.
It was no uncommon sight to see the local newspaper distributor, Bill O'Leary carrying a new cradle on his back from C.T. Roche to Kildorrey 9 miles distant, as well as a bundle of "Examiners."Mr John Fitzgibbon and his sons carried on the trade of Coopering in Bridge St Castletownroche, up to about 40 years ago.
