  2. September the twenty ninth is known as Michaelmas day or the feast of the Dedication of Saint Michael.
    Long ago this day was known as the day of the geese, because on this day it was an old custom for the farmers to kill their first goose. All the farmers would gather together with a dead goose each. Then a draw would take place for the geese. The woman that would win would give a goose each to the poorest families of the district.
