This old custom was very wrong because the person who worked the "Pishogues" took away all the other person's luck. Nowadays people shake holy water on all their cattle to guard against Pishogues.
Once upon a time there was farmer living in (Acres, Fermoy, Co Cork). One May morning when he went out he found a calf's leg behind the hay in the haggard and he found the dairy door smeared with butter. That year all his calves died and all his cows had a shortage of milk.
When this same man went out to see his sheep a few years after on May morning he found a dead lamb by the ditch. He thought(continues on next page)
