  1. Saint Brigid is traditionally connected with this district. The ruins of a monastery which was built by St. Brigid is in Brittway and there is also a holy well belonging to that saint there. St Brigid never worked any miracals there.
    The river Bride which runs near Brittway is called after her. St Brigid's feast day falls on the first of February and long ago people who failed to observe it as a holiday were punished.
    On St. Brigid's eve people put out an unwashed cloth on the latch of the door and it is said that the saint comes and touches the cloth that night. This cloth is supposed to cure any ailments when it is put around the affected part of the person. This cloth is
