    The thatch grew in the land.
    In some cases the people had beds in the kitchen that is when the houses were small, and the families large.
    Sometimes the fire was not at the gable end, if there was a room at that end Long ago they had no frames in windows in some houses, only a hole made in the wall and a pane of glass stuck in. In some houses where the frames were in the windows, they had bags of hay nailed on to the frame.
    The old floors were made of earth, and stones. Coal was not so common in those days, and it was wood they had for fire.
    It was candles they had for light. Candles were hard
