- (continued from previous page)One Sunday, in the Penal times, a Priest was celebrating Mass in the local church (Matehys). An Officer of the Yeos entered the church and approached the Alter. As the Priest raised his hands at the Elevation the Officer cut off both his hands. He then rushed out and the horrified congregation saw him mount his horse with his soldiers rush down the hill towards Foxes Bridge. Near the Bridge the horse stumbled and the Officer was thrown to the ground, dying almost that instant. The soldiers buried him in the nearest graveyard, that in Loughane East, and went their way. In the morning the graveyard had moved down the hill, across the river, and up the other hill near Mathey church, where it(continues on next page)
