- There were three poets in the locality in former times. Their names were John Carey, John Murphy, Patrick O Driscoll.
John Carey lived in a place called Cúilín a Gadhar, Dungourney. He was a great man to write a skellig list. He went to California many years ago and has never been heard of since. Before he went he wrote a poem called "Farewell to Donickmore" which shows how heart broken he was to be leaving his native country.
John Murphy wrote several songs about the old Dungourney hurlers. He lived in Ballynacarty two miles from Dungourney. He was a small farmer.
Patrick O Driscoll was a native of Clonmult and he was a teacher in Knockmourne. He wrote several pieces about Clonmult and its surroundings. Here are a few lines "Clonmult neat beneath my feet and Garrylawrence in the vale.- Bailitheoir
