    has been collected the large ones are cut into portions which are called sgailleans and the small ones are set whole. Those sgailleans which have two eyes are counted the best for setting for from the eyes the shoots on stalks come forth. The sgailleans are spread in the furrows about 10" to !2" apart and the manure is then scattered over the seed.
    Some farmers use an artificial manure over this to give an earlier start to the crops, but we do not use it in our plot.
