(continued from previous page)in his hand. The stranger laid the broken sword on the anvil and told the smith to weed the parts quickly as he needed it o the hill of Knockfierna that night. The smith although he suffered from fear got to work quickly and in a short time, had the sword complete.
Now said the stranger "I am going to battle and if we win I will call here again before cock crow and shall pay you well for your work" The stranger then got on his horse and departed. The smith stood for some time gazing after his visitor. Now Knockfierna Hill was about two miles distant from him, and what was his surprise to hear a great noise there like the clash of steel the frightened neigh of horses, and the hoarse cheer of men as they fought combat, while great globes of light seemed to turn night into day. The smith retired home in terror of the great unknown. They visitor did not return, so the myserious events of the night remain a mystery which no human may solve.
