    on a flat pan resting on a grid-iron or support and laid on the open hearth fire.
    The baking was done once a week and the cakes were placed on a shelf like plates.
    This old method of bread making continued for many years in the west of Ireland in Clare and Galway especially.
    The bread was made, by adding sour skim milk, and soda to the flour, and then kneading lightly and finally flattened out to the size of the pan.
