    their supper. The whole family used to sit around the table, and the potatoes were put in the middle of it, on a canvas tablecloth. Milk was then served in vessels known as piggins, which were made of timber. When meat was used, it was mostly all fresh meat, and if a calf was killed it was divided amongst the families of the district, who would do the same when they killed a calf of their own. There are no rivers in this district, where fish could be found plentiful. In olden times many of the poor people had to have potatoes for their supper, as well as for ? dinner. Almost every family would try and have a goose for Xmas. Tea was first brought into the district in the early part the nineteenth century. Its price was very high, and was beyond the reach of good many people. There are many stories
