- The lands of this district were owned by landlords both local and absentee up to the year 1900. About that time negotiations were in progress for the sale of the lands to the Irish. - land - comissioners who purchased the lands from the landlords. The various land purchase acts were a great boon to the Irish farmer as it made him more secure in his home. Those acts also wiped out the dangers attached to Landlordism.
