- One summer evening they were in the meadow very busy "cocking" the hay. The evening was fine but the sky showed signs of a rainy forecast. When their work was finished they were about to leave the meadow. The owner of the land Pat O'Grady walked back to one corner of the field to gather a few "sops" that were scattered there. Under a "sop" there was a brown paper parcel. It contained about three lbs of beef raw. He pitched it into a dyke but as he said to himself "you may say I did not like to get it".
