  1. Another funny story is told about Daniel O'Connell and Spring Rice. Spring Rice lived behind in Foynes where the present Monteagle is now living. This man held, a very important post under the Government, so that when the time for the elections came Spring Rice travelled to Limerick.
    Daniel O'Connell also came down from Dublin by the mail-coach and lodged in one of the hotels in Limerick. When the people in Limerick found out where he was staying they gathered around the hotel.
    After a while Daniel O'Connell appeared at his window and he said to the mob, "Ye all know I am after my trial in Dublin and I cannot make anymore speeches, but I will tell ye a story about an old man and woman who lived in Kerry. These two people had a small bit of land and every time the old man went to the fair, when he had his things sold he put a few
