    in the district. Even at the present time there is a match being made between a gay widow of sixty five and a gayer widower of about seventy. About eighty years ago marriages took place in the houses, one took place in Ballycasey in the night-time. The customs long ago were throwing a shoe after the carriage and they always wanted grey horses because they were said to be lucky. The bride never went to the bridegroom's house before the marriage.
