  1. Aubrey de Vere.
    He was born in Curragh Chase 10th January, 1814 and died 21st Jan. 1902 at the age of 88 years. When I was a boy his kind salute from his carriage I shall never forget. We used meet him on the road going to Adare from Curragh Chase for mass. His place in the church was about the second bench in front of the altar and he used to assist at mass very devoutly. He loved the poor and oppressed and was very busy during the famine years doing all he could for the poor suffering people.
    He was born a Protestant and belonged to that church until he was 37 years of age. At the time of the great Oxford movement that shook the foundation stone of Protestantism in Ireland and England, he became a Roman Catholic at Avignon in 1851.
