  1. During the Penal times our priests were hunted down, and as everybody knows were not allowed to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the churches. Mass was offered on the hillsides and mountains and a rock was used as an altar-stone.
We have one of these in this parish - in the townland of Corderry, a mile east from the village of Galbaly on the way to Aherlow.
Mass paths are also pointed out - one from Ballinamona to Lisard - another from Barna to Galbally.
Fr Geoffry Keating spent some time in the woods of Aherlow in hiding from the English.
While there he wrote "Forus Feasa na hÉireann"
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
