- St Brigid's Eve.
A piece of ribbon was tied to the latch of the door on the outside. In the morning it was taken in and put away carefully.
A headache in the family was supposed to be cured by having this ribbon tied round the head.
St Brigid was supposed to have blessed it. Ash Wednesday.
Some bacon was boiled and kept till Easter Sunday. Then it was re-heated by roasting and each member of the family got a tiny bit. It was supposed to keep away illness for the year.(continues on next page)
