    Down by the Mulcair banks & strayed heath the lonely flowers in June.
    The birds were singing cheerily
    The meadows in bull bloom
    As on my boyhood days I think
    The tears came rolling down
    For in the morning I must leave
    You dear old Newport town
    My heart grows lonely as I pass
    Each lad and lonely lass
    That once used greet me warmly
    On my way to early mass
    Their winning ways and greetings
    As they pass me up and down
    Must I leave the scene and the girl I love
    In dear old Newport town
