  2. Long ago school was carried on in the farmers' houses. Some of the old peoplein the district who were learned enough taught the children.
    They went around to the houses each night. There was no Irish taught. The writing was done on slates or flat stones. The people had to give the teachers a sum of money called a "school fee"
