   a horse. The "legs" of this grub are three in number, two pass close to the side of the drill on either side, and the third one passes through the centre of the furrow. The clay in the furrow and on the sides of the drills is broken up; if it remains rough and lumpy, the horse is yoked to a very heavy stone, and this is drawn along the furrow which as been lately grubbed; this makes the clay as fine as powder. If there are weeds in the drills they are removed, either by the hands or with a hand-hoe. The fresh fine clay is now raised round the drill with a plough. All this work is done about three weeks after planting, and before the young stalks appear. About five or six weeks later, when the young stalks are about six or eight inches over the ground, the furrow is grubbed again, and any weeds that have grown in the meantime are removed; then the potatoes are moulded with a double mould-board plough.
