    The Castle and Chapel are lofty and splendid
    And fortune seems lately to smile on our town
    We have fairs for our cattle with egg and fowl market
    And sports emulating old Grecian renown.
    I'll ride in high spirits to our next merry meeting
    And call at Joe Lawrence's beneath the Old Stone
    And fill out a bumper to the friends of the people
    And to noble young Kickham of Mullinahone.
    (The Old Stone is the building in Carrick St which was probably a Norman fortress. In more recent times it seems to have been used as a "pound" for it is now known as "The Pound.")
