  1. The Beehive.
There is a public house situated on the Clonmel-Dungarvan road, about 7 miles from the former town. Long ago it boasted a sign-board on which was painted a bee-hive and the following verse.
"In this hive we are all alive,
    And whiskey makes us funny
If you are dry, come in and try
    The flavour of our honey"
A poor scholar weary and tired, and with empty pockets, happened to pass the way. Seeing the inscription he added the following verse.
"I am dry but cannot try
    The flavour of your honey
For if I go in, the bee will sting
For I have got no money"
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
