- Eel Weir
There are the remains of a stone weir on the river Ara about a hundred yards from the public road where eels were caught long ago.
There is a small opening about three feet wide at one side with an old frame to which the eel net could be attached.
This net was very long about eight feet and it ran into a purse shape at the end.
The meshes at the mouth (top) were fairly large but they got small down along until they were very small at the end.
The net was easily attached to the frame.
