Long ago there was a thick population her in Cappagh: work was very laborious tilling the land with wooden implements, the food was very poor also.
The people used to make their own bread of ground oats which they baked on a gridle.
The used to have yellow meal stirabout and sour milk three times a day.
Later on when conditions improved they used oaten meal porridge.
When the men were building the railway, their hire was a pound of yellow meal every day.- Collector
