A daring feat of horsemanship.
In the neighbourhood of Cahir lived a family named O'Doherty.
One of these was a skillful and daring rider to hounds who performed many feats of horsemanship, the greatest of which perhaps was in connection with a challenge from an English officer who fancied himself as a rider. This officer lived in Cahir military barracks then but recently built.
O'Doherty the challenger had choice of the test.
The two riders with their friends met at Cahir Bridge, the battlements of which were fairly stout then as they still are.
