- My Townland
The name of the Townland in which I live is called Ballygorteen which means the little tilled field.
The land around it is very fertile.
The townland is bounded on one side by the Fidoughta river and on the other by the river Ara.
There are seven houses in it and there are twenty six people in it.
The oldest person in it is Ned Hogan who is about seventy years.
His father and grandfather were weavers.
They are mostly all farmers that are in it.
Each farmer has some tillage but dairying is the principal industry.
There are no tailors or shoemakers or carpenters in our townland.
The nearest forge is two miles away.- Collector
