- The great storm blew over this locality of a small Christmas Night in the year 1839. This storm did great damage every where. Houses were knocked, thatch was blown, and cars were blown off streets and found smashed to pieces.
There was a man in Clohanmore named Patrick Duggan. He was a very poor man and his house was badly thatched. When the wind came it blew the thatch and the roof off the house and laid it on a field near by. There was a woman sick in the house at the time and she and the whole household had to stay under the roof until their own house was repaired.
A house belonging to Michael Leary of Carhuligane was blown. Michael was born the same night. The whole family had to seek shelter in a neighbouring house until their house was rebuilt again.
