Ardaghy is one of the ten townlands of Omeath and being fairly central was chosen some fifty-six years ago as a site for Ardaghy school. The Omeath waterworks gets its supply from the river which forms the boundary between Lislea and Ardaghy. There are about twenty families. The name which is most common is Mc Donnell.
The name of Ardaghy is probably taken from its hilly position, the Irish name being Árdachaidh. An old fort used to exist at Ballyutra now nown as the "Cluster" and presently near the site of this fort, on the road at a place called the Pollaí Buidhe there is a large stone with an ancient landmark. Below the Cluster is Mount Pleasant called Cnoc na h-Áilne.
