- A famous football match took place in a meadow in Bavan about one hundred and fifty years ago. It is locally called Iomall Leine Bhadhbhun. The Omeath men were playing men from Killeany and there were sixteen men on each side. There was a man called Páitín tSleibhe killed at the match. He was the strongest man on the Omeath side. He got very badly hurt and died three days afterwards."Bhí an scéal maith go léir go dtainig Páitín tSleibhe
There was a young man on the Omeath side called Duffy and he was very clever.Bhí Dubhaigh beag leis fhéin comh-cliste leis na h-eanlaith.The match ended in a draw without scoring a goal on either side."Char chuir siad ar an taobh de fe baire"
