Horehound tea was used here abut 70 years ago. The horehound flower is a blue flower. Long ago the flower heads were pulled and dried in the sun. When dried it was put in canisters and then used for tea, which was very strong. Pepper and sugar were put on it but not milk.
The potato cake was made with cooked mashed potatoes, baking soda and milk. It was white and baked in a pot oven. This cake is seldom made now.
Stampy bread was made from wheaten meal. When ready for the oven marks were put on the loaf so it could be cut easily.
Brown Bread which was called "Brown John" was very large and was baked on a griddle.
