night was fine the tent owners would sleep under their tents till the second day. When the races was over the visiting teams would put up in the Central Hotel in Peter Street. It would be great fun watching them going round with straw hats and fancy blazers with coloured braid to match their hats. If they won any races they would be grabbing handfuls of pennies. The children would be jostling one another to see who would got the most. The two bands would play the visiting teams to the station and with cheering, singing, dancing, and romancing, it would be the greatest event of the year.
